Between the plot and the river is much the same but more open and shorter coppiced trees. Plot BLUE.77 may represent this stands type before it was slammed by a major flood event.;Gentle bend in river at upstream end of a point bar floodplain system. The community is a battered woodland of Platanus occidentalis and small patches of elevated soil accumulations around the tree trunks. There are a series of fluvial levees and swales between the river and a more stable floodplain terrace. Coble/boulder substrate is sparsely vegetated except in relictual soil patches.
Representativeness
Plot covers about 1/4 of a small patch of heavily scoured woodland. The plot was placed here to investigate the white signature on the aerial photography. This is the most open aspect of Platanus occidentalis-Betula nigra community type.
